DRAWING WAS NOT DRAWN BY ME! IT WAS DRAWN BY Natalie closed her eyes. She tried so hard to forget, to pretend that she was living the life she was living before the bomb, but no matter how hard she tried, the bad memories just swelled up inside of her like a volcano. Natalie remembered it as if it were a bad dream. She was trying to fall asleep that night listening to the all too familiar sound of her parents arguing. One shout after another. Mean words, curse words, words in a different language. They all meant the same thing to Natalie; a sleepless night. Most of the time they were arguing over silly things like who was the one who put the car keys in the living room or what channel to watch on t.v. Natalie often found herself wishing that her mom would stop wasting her time and get a divorce with that jerk Dan, her father, as soon as possible. She laid on the bed, looking at the ceiling, wondering if her parents shouting in the hallway were keeping up other kids her age. All I did was suggest we watch that movie Natalie wanted to see oh so badly! Her mother, Clairise Nalt, yelled. And I said that movie is a chick-flick and that we should see a movie we all want to see! Dan Nalt shouted back. Alien Invaders is hardly a chick-flick, and besides, you know how much that girl has been obsessing over that movie! You should think about your fourteen year old daughter before you think about yourself! Its her birthday for-crying-out-loud! Why should I? I didnt want her, remember? She was an accident. Or did you forget? Accident or not shes our daughter! Besides, even if she was a mistake shes the best mistake anyone could make! We made a living being together, and you should be proud of a beautiful, smart, creative daughter like- Pft. Now I see shes not the only mistake I helped make. I forgot about the stupid choice I made of marrying you! That was the biggest mistake of all! Augh! I dont have the patience for this! Natalie heard familiar loud clacking footsteps. Where are you going!? Dan Nalt exclaimed. Natalie hugged Hundeh, her pet Golden Retriever, that lay next to her, on the bed, on its belly. Natalies mom walked into the motel room, leaving Mr. Nalt in the hallway. Natalie, would you like to go to a different motel tonight? She whispered to her daughter. Natalie quietly nodded her head. Alright. Hurry up and get your bag. Natalie grabbed her backpack that she packed with various things for their vacation. Come on Hundeh, Natalie said to her dog as she followed her mother. The Golden Retriever jumped off the bed and followed her owner. As Natalie, her mother, and Hundeh, walked down the hallway away from her father he pointed to Natalie. This is all your fault, he murmured. It felt as if her heart skipped a beat as she made a realization. It is my fault. Behind all of the practices you've attended, behind all of the meets you've competed in, behind all of the tears you've shed, and behind all of the teammates that supported you, there lies a lil girl who first fell in love with the sport. Do it for her.
